“Machete shouldn’t be a movie – the idea itself defies Hollywood logic but maybe that’s the charm it has to offer. Maybe there’s a cult movie hiding within? Maybe with the right audience, the right drink, and the right friends Machete would be more exciting?” Score: 7 / 10
“This is a pretty kick-ass French survival horror film, but with the added bonus of zombie/mutant things that live in the earth and are awoken when blood is spilled over their resting place. It’s effectively gory, surprisingly humorous, and was definitely one of the few films at, ahem, FRIGHTfest that actually had some frights.” Score: 8 / 10
“Originally filmed in 2007, the film had some minor reshoots a while back, but it doesn’t seem to have helped much. I don’t know what scenes are new and which were there all along, but there are tell-tale signs of tinkering throughout, as a recognizable actor is reduced to only a few seconds as a glorified extra, Erika Christensen and Jesse Metcalfe’s acting is all over the place, and the film keeps changing between a dramatic thriller about parents pushed to the edge, to a traditional “torture porn”.” Score: 4 / 10
“I think it works as a unique take on the possession/exorcism type film, and delivers a number of good scares, and surprisingly strong performances from characters you will come to care about…” Score: 8 / 10
“Even with several minor flaws, Dorian Gray fills the screen with enough booze, boobs, and blood to satisfy the desires of horror and literary fans alike. The film is a proficient tribute to Oscar Wildes original material while managing to escalate Grays depraved lifestyle and its consequences to even greater heights.” Score: 7 / 10
“BLACK DEATH is one helluva enthralling, disturbing and simply breathtaking film which is so intensive at times that you almost think youre lying on a torture rack instead of sitting in a theater seat!” Score: 9 / 10
“Delivering all sorts of bloody goodness, Piranha is Alex Aja’s best film since High Tension… It’s damn fun, and off the hook bloody. If anything, the spring break summer massacre sequence will go down in infamy as one of the most awesome and insane horror moments of all time.” Score: 6 / 10
“Ultimately, the most insulting thing about the film is that it was made, and made so poorly. You’d think mocking the Twi-films would be like shooting fish in a barrel, but Friedberg/Seltzer completely failed to mine the material for anything even approaching quality satire (the jokes are so predictable I actually called out a punchline 30 seconds before it occurred at one point).” Score: 2 / 10
“The Lost Tribe attempts to hide its weaknesses (a lame script; uneven pacing) behind a series of relative strengths (gorgeous locations in Panama; intermittently interesting creature attacks), and for the most part the bait-and-switch succeeds.” Score: 6 / 10
“Overall, this is a great and very atmospheric slasher film that deserves more appreciation from the horror genre. Great story, stunning visuals and direction, as well as some awesome kills and tension make this flick a true gem to watch.” Score: 8 / 10
